Parents have an important role to play in their child's success as a reader. The links below will help you to find information about reading together at home. The University of Michigan Health System website offers basic information on the importance of reading with your child, as well as links to many useful resources for reading activities, family literacy programs and struggling readers. International Children's Digital Library is a free online library for children's books--and not just in English! Languages include Farsi, Serbian, Turkish, Arabic, Afrikaans, Yiddish, Polish, Mongolian, Tagalog, Filipino, Swahili, Kinyawadan, Spanish, French, among others. Visit to find books you can read together. Project Enlightenment offers a list of useful early literacy tips for parents. Although these tips are labeled for preschool age children, they will work with older children, as well. Wake County Public Schools has produced eleven short videos to give parents some tips about how best to support their children as they develop into strong readers. Reading Rockets offers simple tips for parents who want to help their children become better readers. Tips are separated by age group and are available in a variety of languages. The Screen Actor's Guild has created Story Online. You and your child can read along as a storybook is read aloud by an actor.
